Wow, I'm officially a Blogger

I can't believe I've finally given in and become part of the 30-and-under crowd and started my first official blog. The one thing I said I'd never do. Up till about 8 months ago I kept a loose journal of sorts on Blackplanet.com and was satisfied with that. It gave me the opportunity to air my thoughts and those that I invited to read or those that stumbled upon my page often left me feedback on what I wrote via personal notes or emails. But, I tired of that and so have moved on, albeit kicking and screaming, to the real deal... blogging.

So when I started reading other people's blogs and found myself enjoying them and looking forward to their updates, I began to notice a few things... One, the blogs I'd come across that have been written by single moms were few and far between. And while, yes, they were written by single moms, they were written by women I can't relate to, i.e. women that have become single moms through divorce. Meaning they did things the "right" way and their children were born in wedlock, supportive hubby, etc. My and most of my friends circumstances were completely different. Yet it seems the only true single mom that magazines, blogs and other forms of publication recognize is the divorced mom or the single mom through tragic circumstances, such as a widow. I am not that mom. Few women I know are the new age "standard" single mom. So blog is my way of venting, not just about my personal life, not just about my kid(s), but also to show that all single moms aren't alike. Sure we share some of the same plights, woes and worries but all of our stories are different. Hopefully mine will make some laugh, cry or just be an encouragement of acknowledgement that hey, you're not alone in what you're going through.
